Morning Traffic Outlook for Friday, 13 February

Commuters across Albury can expect relatively clear conditions on the major thoroughfares this Friday morning. While the Hume Highway and Riverina Highway remain at high capacity, no major accidents or unplanned incidents have been reported in the immediate Albury-Wodonga area. However, residents should remain mindful of several long-term infrastructure projects that continue to impact local traffic flow and parking availability.

Local Roadworks and Construction Alerts

Albury City Council has confirmed that several key construction projects are currently active. Commuters are advised to plan for minor delays in the following areas:

  • Thurgoona Link Road (Stage 5): Construction remains ongoing near the Kerr Road sewer works. This major project is slated for completion in March, but temporary lane shifts and reduced speed limits are in effect.
  • Australia Park: The construction of the levee and new carpark facilities is progressing. Drivers frequenting the riverside area should be aware of restricted parking and heavy machinery movements around the vehicle crossing construction sites.
  • Lavington Drainage Works: Reconstruction efforts continue between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Specifically, demolition and shotcrete works are concentrated between Nowra Street and the railway line, which may cause intermittent noise and localized traffic management in the Lavington area.
  • Elizabeth Mitchell Drive: Motorists should exercise caution near the Corry's Road intersection as sewer interconnection works move into the construction phase.

Public Transport and Timetable Reminders

Following the "Big Switch" network changes introduced at the start of February, V/Line and NSW TrainLink services are now operating under new permanent timetables. Commuters using the Albury Line are reminded that fully reserved seating remains a requirement for all train services to Melbourne. While no trackwork is scheduled for today, Friday 13 February, passengers should be aware that major works on the Albury corridor are planned for late February, which will necessitate coach replacements at that time.

Regional Alert: Heavy Traffic Northbound

For those commuting between Albury and Wagga Wagga today, please be advised of significantly increased traffic volumes on the Hume Highway and surrounding regional roads. The NSW Junior State Cup Southern Conference begins this morning at Wagga’s Jubilee Park, attracting over 8,000 visitors and 180 teams. Heavy congestion is expected around Red Hill Road and Bourke Street in Wagga, and commuters traveling north should allow extra travel time due to the influx of regional visitors.
