Morning Commute Overview

Commuters in Albury and the surrounding regions should prepare for several localized traffic impacts and public transport changes this Thursday, 12 February 2026. While major arteries within the Albury CBD remain largely clear, significant drainage and reconstruction projects in Lavington and ongoing maintenance on the Hume Highway are expected to affect travel times throughout the day.

Local Roadworks and Infrastructure Projects

Albury City Council has several active construction zones that may cause minor delays or require local detours. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the following areas:

  • Lavington Drainage Reconstruction: Significant work is progressing between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Demolition works are currently underway, and shotcrete application is being finalized for the section between Nowra Street and the railway line. Expect heavy machinery and intermittent lane closures in these residential blocks.
  • Burrows Road Reconstruction: Reconstruction efforts are continuing with the installation of a new watermain. This project, which commenced in late January, involves active work zones that may restrict access to local businesses and residences.
  • Thurgoona Link Road (Stage 5): Construction of the Kerr Road sewer is ongoing. While much of this work is off-road, support vehicles and site access requirements near the intersection may cause brief stoppages during peak morning and afternoon periods.
  • Australia Park: Carpark and levee construction continues. While this has minimal impact on through-traffic, those utilizing the park or nearby boat ramps should be aware of restricted parking and increased truck movements.

Regional Highway and Hume Motorway Updates

For those commuting north toward Sydney or traveling long-distance, Transport for NSW has flagged several maintenance zones on the Hume Highway that will remain active through Friday, 13 February:

  • Mittagong Bridge Work: Northbound traffic is currently being diverted onto southbound lanes under a contraflow arrangement. A reduced speed limit of 80 km/h is in place 24/7, adding approximately 10 minutes to travel times.
  • Goulburn Resurfacing: Nightly resurfacing continues from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Single lane closures and intermittent stoppages are in effect. During daylight hours, an 80 km/h speed limit remains in place through the work zone.
  • Yarra Maintenance: Resurfacing work between Goulburn and Gundagai is resulting in speed reductions and single lane closures, typically adding 5 minutes to journeys.

Public Transport and Rail Alerts

Commuters utilizing rail services should be aware of the new V/Line master timetable that came into effect on 1 February 2026. The "Big Switch" network changes have adjusted arrival and departure times for the Albury Line to improve connectivity with the metropolitan network. Additionally, passengers heading toward Melbourne should note that bus replacements are active on the Werribee Line through this evening, which may cause delays for those transferring to metropolitan services at Southern Cross Station. NSW TrainLink services are currently operating to their standard regional schedule, though passengers are encouraged to check for real-time updates prior to departure as seasonal maintenance can result in late-notice platform changes.
