Official Notices for Sunday, 8 February 2026

AlburyCity and regional health authorities have several active notices and advisories in place for the Albury community. Residents and visitors are encouraged to review the following updates regarding public health, infrastructure projects, and opportunities for community feedback.

Health Advisory: Mosquito-Borne Disease Prevention

NSW Health has issued a regional alert following the detection of the Japanese Encephalitis (JE) virus in the Riverina and southern border regions. With high mosquito activity expected throughout the remainder of February, health officials are urging residents to take proactive measures to prevent bites. A free JE vaccine is currently available for eligible individuals through local GPs and pharmacies. To minimize risk, the public is advised to:

  • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors.
  • Apply effective insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus to all exposed skin.
  • Limit outdoor activity during peak mosquito periods at dawn and dusk.
  • Ensure all residential window and door screens are in good repair and remove any standing water from around the home.

Public Exhibition and Planning Proposals

The community is invited to provide feedback on several significant planning matters currently on public exhibition. Submissions are being accepted for the following items:

  • 773 Mate Street, North Albury: A planning proposal is underway to amend the Albury Local Environmental Plan 2010. This amendment seeks to permit 'office premises' at this location. Submissions for this proposal remain open until Thursday, 19 February 2026.
  • Road Naming Submissions: Council is seeking feedback on the naming of three new roads: Asher Lane (extending east from Creek Street), Dornan Lane (located between Thurgoona and Wilcox Streets), and Discovery Road (a private road within Noreuil Park). The closing date for these submissions is Tuesday, 10 February 2026.

Infrastructure and Road Works Update

Several major construction projects are currently active across the city. Motorists should be aware of potential delays and localized detours in the following areas:

  • Lavington Drainage Reconstruction: Demolition and shotcrete works are progressing between Boronia and Tamarind Streets to improve local flood resilience.
  • Burrows Road Reconstruction: Full-scale reconstruction is ongoing, including the installation of new water mains. Residents should follow all posted site signage.
  • Albury Airport: Construction on Taxiway Alpha continues. While night works for Stage 1 have concluded, ongoing upgrades to the western precinct are scheduled to enhance regional aviation capacity.
  • Thurgoona Link Road: Stage 5 construction and sewer works at Kerr Road remain in progress, with a projected completion date in March 2026.

Community Opportunities

Young leaders in the region are encouraged to apply for the 2026 AlburyCity Youth Council. There are 14 positions available for a 12-month term, providing a platform for local youth to advocate for community projects. Nominations must be submitted by Friday, 27 February 2026. Additionally, the 'Australia in Space' national travelling exhibition remains open at the LibraryMuseum for families and students until mid-March.
