Official Council Leadership Update
AlburyCity has announced a transition in its executive leadership. Following a council resolution on Monday, 2 February 2026, Gael Evans-Barr has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer. This change comes as the council seeks a renewed leadership focus for upcoming organisational priorities. An interim Chief Executive Officer is expected to be appointed by mid-February to oversee the city’s major strategic and infrastructure projects.
Public Proposals for Road Naming
Notice is hereby given under Section 162 of the Roads Act 1993 regarding several new road naming proposals within the Albury area. Residents are invited to provide feedback on the following designations:
- Asher Lane: A proposed public road commencing at Creek Street, Albury, and extending in an easterly direction.
- Dornan Lane: A proposed public road located between Thurgoona Street and Wilcox Street.
- Discovery Road: A proposed private road located within the South Albury/Noreuil Park precinct.
Submissions regarding these names will be accepted until the close of business on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. Interested parties should address their correspondence to the AlburyCity Planning Team.
Regional Traffic and Infrastructure Advisory
Motorists travelling through the broader region are advised of ongoing traffic management associated with the Snowy 2.0 project. Temporary lane closures will remain in effect on the Snowy Mountains Highway between Wambrook Hill and Providence Portal through Friday, 6 February 2026. Work zones are active between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with traffic reduced to a single lane in alternating directions. Travellers should anticipate delays of approximately 10 minutes at each localised site.
Health and Environmental Safety
NSW Health has issued a statewide clinician alert regarding cases of multidrug-resistant infections. While primarily directed at medical professionals, residents are reminded to maintain standard health precautions. Additionally, following recent periods of high temperatures, AlburyCity continues to urge residents to monitor local weather conditions and adhere to heat safety protocols, particularly for vulnerable community members and pets.
Community Opportunities: 2026 Youth Council
Nominations are now officially open for the 2026 AlburyCity Youth Council. Local residents aged 12 to 18 who are interested in community advocacy and leadership development are encouraged to apply. There are 14 positions available for the 12-month term, including roles for Youth Mayor and Secretary. Applications must be submitted by Friday, 27 February 2026.
Police Appeal for Information
The Murray River Police District is continuing its investigation into a suspicious approach involving a child on Walsh Street, East Albury, on 1 February. Police are seeking information regarding a white Toyota HiAce van with black rims seen in the area. Anyone with relevant footage or information is urged to contact local authorities.
