Official City Notice: Severe Heat Warning

AlburyCity and NSW Health have issued a severe heat advisory for the Albury-Wodonga region effective Friday, 30 January 2026. Extremely hot conditions are expected to persist throughout the weekend. Residents are strongly advised to take precautions against heat-related illness by staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak temperature hours, and ensuring that pets have access to adequate shade and water. Vulnerable members of the community, including the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions, should remain in air-conditioned environments where possible.

Public Health Alert: Mosquito-Borne Disease Risk

NSW Health continues to urge residents across Southern New South Wales to protect themselves against mosquito bites. Following recent environmental conditions, there is an increased risk of mosquito-borne illnesses in the region. The community is advised to wear long, loose-fitting clothing, use effective insect repellents containing DEET or Picaridin, and empty any containers of standing water around the home to prevent mosquito breeding.

Infrastructure and Essential Works Update

AlburyCity is currently overseeing several major infrastructure projects as part of the 'Building our City' initiative. Residents and motorists should be aware of the following active worksites for Friday, 30 January:

  • Albury Airport: Night works continue for the Taxiway Alpha runway tie-in. These works are scheduled to occur during off-peak hours to minimize disruption to flight schedules, though residents in the vicinity may notice increased activity.
  • Lavington Drainage Reconstruction: Demolition and reconstruction works remain active between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Local traffic diversions are in place, and motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
  • Australia Park: Construction is progressing on the Australia Park carpark and levee. Concrete formwork for the retaining wall and the construction of new vehicle crossings are currently underway.
  • Animal Care Centre: The final stages of the Education Hub are nearing completion, with contractors finishing internal fit-outs throughout the remainder of the week.

Community Consultation and Planning

The Council invites public submissions on several planning and naming proposals currently on exhibition:

  • Road Naming Submissions: Submissions are invited for the naming of 'Asher Lane' in Albury, 'Discovery Road' in South Albury (Noreuil Park), and 'Dornan Lane'. Feedback will be accepted until the close of business on Tuesday, 10 February 2026.
  • LEP Amendment: A Planning Proposal to amend the Albury Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2010 regarding 773 Mate Street, North Albury, is open for public comment. The proposal seeks to allow for 'office premises' at the site. Submissions must be received by Thursday, 19 February 2026.
