Deadline: Eight Mile Creek Flood Study Review

Today, Thursday, 2 April 2026, is the final day for community members to provide formal feedback on the draft Eight Mile Creek Flood Study Review. Developed in collaboration with specialist hydrologic consultants, this comprehensive study evaluates flood behavior and risks across the Eight Mile Creek and Sandy Creek catchments. Submissions must be received by 5:00 PM today. Residents can submit their feedback via the official engagement portal or in writing at the Council Chambers located at 553 Kiewa Street. This feedback is vital for shaping future flood mitigation strategies and urban planning for the region.

Infrastructure and Roadwork Updates

Several major infrastructure projects are active across the Albury and Lavington regions this week. Motorists should anticipate minor delays and localized traffic management in the following zones:

• Lavington Drainage Reconstruction: Significant upgrades continue between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Crews are currently progressing with retaining wall construction. Localized diversions remain in place to ensure site safety.
• Burrows Road Redevelopment: Following the completion of watermain installations, work has shifted to road pavement construction between Logan Road and Union Road in South Albury. High-activity machinery is present in the area.
• Thurgoona Link Road (Stage 5): Installations of sewer and water trunk mains are ongoing at the Kerr Road intersection. This growth corridor project is essential for the planned expansion of the Thurgoona-Wirlinga residential area.
• Albury Airport: Asphalt laying for the Taxiway Alpha extension is nearing completion. These upgrades are designed to support aeromedical emergency services and enhance general airport operations.

Public Health and Community Services

Regional Hospital Access: In coordination with Albury Wodonga Health, residents are reminded of significant access changes at the Albury Campus due to the ongoing Regional Hospital Project. Public parking has been relocated to the full length of the East Street verge, and pedestrian access to the main entrance is now via a newly established designated footpath. Traffic controllers are on-site to prioritize emergency vehicle movements.

Animal Care Initiative: The Albury Animal Care Centre continues its special adoption program throughout April. Adoption fees for all cats and dogs are being waived to encourage the rehoming of local animals. New owners will also receive settlement support to assist their pets in transitioning to their new homes.

Aurora in Bloom: The immersive light installation at the Albury Botanic Gardens remains open nightly. Residents can visit the gardens until 11 April. Low-sensory sessions are available during the first timeslot each evening for families and individuals with specific accessibility requirements.
