Public Notice: Council Infrastructure Updates and Seasonal Health Advisories

Public Health Advisory: Mosquito-Borne Disease Prevention
As the autumn school holiday period continues, AlburyCity and NSW Health have issued a regional advisory urging residents and visitors to remain vigilant against mosquito-borne illnesses. With increased outdoor activity expected through Monday, 6 April 2026, health officials recommend taking proactive measures to mitigate the risk of Japanese encephalitis and other viruses. Residents are advised to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and apply effective repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus. This advisory remains in effect until the conclusion of the holiday period on 19 April.
Infrastructure and Traffic Management Notifications
Several major infrastructure projects are active across the city this week. Motorists should account for potential delays and follow all localized signage at the following sites:
- Lavington Drainage Reconstruction: Significant upgrades are progressing between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Drivers are advised to follow diversions near the railway line as crews work on critical retaining wall construction.
- Burrows Road Watermain: Reconstruction efforts continue in South Albury. Temporary lane narrowing is in effect between Logan Road and Union Road; high-activity machinery will be operating throughout the day.
- Thurgoona Link Road (Stage 5): Utility installations are active near the Kerr Road intersection. Please anticipate minor delays and maintain awareness of site traffic controllers.
- Hume Highway Speed Restrictions: Infrastructure work at Table Top continues to necessitate reduced speed limits. Motorists should exercise caution when traveling north of the city.
Hospital Access and Parking Changes
Albury Wodonga Health reminds the public of ongoing access changes at the Albury Campus due to the Regional Hospital Project. Construction fencing has been adjusted to accommodate the new building footprint. Public parking is currently shifted to the East Street verge. Pedestrian access to the main entrance is via a newly designated footpath, and traffic controllers are stationed at the carpark entry to prioritize emergency vehicle movements.
Community Programs and Events
- Aurora in Bloom: The immersive light installation at the Albury Botanic Gardens continues tonight. Part of the Luna Light Journeys series, this event runs nightly until 11 April. Low-sensory sessions are available during the first timeslot for those with specific accessibility requirements.
- Animal Adoption Initiative: The Albury Animal Care Centre is waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs throughout the month of April. The initiative includes settlement support to assist new owners in rehoming local animals.
