Community Road Naming Proposals

AlburyCity is currently inviting residents to provide feedback on several new road naming proposals across the region. These names have been selected to reflect the history and development of our growing suburbs. The current proposals include Discovery Road, a proposed private road located within the Noreuil Park precinct in South Albury, as well as Asher Lane and Dornan Lane in Central Albury. Asher Lane is planned to commence at Creek Street and extend eastward, while Dornan Lane is situated between Thurgoona Street and Wilcox Street.

Public submissions for these names are being accepted until the close of business on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. Residents can review the detailed maps and submit their feedback via email to the council or by visiting the Kiewa Street customer service center.

Infrastructure and Development Projects

Several major projects under the 'Building our City' initiative remain active this week. Construction at the Albury Airport continues, with significant taxiway upgrades underway. Night works for the Taxiway Alpha runway tie-in are scheduled to continue through this week to minimize daytime disruption. Additionally, the final stages of the Animal Care Centre Education Hub are nearing completion, and drainage reconstruction continues in Lavington between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street.

A planning proposal for 773 Mate Street, North Albury, is also on exhibition. The proposal seeks to introduce the site into the Albury Local Environmental Plan 2010 to allow for 'office premises.' Documentation is available for public viewing at the Albury LibraryMuseum and the Lavington Library. Submissions providing feedback on this planning proposal can be made until Thursday, 19 February 2026.

Regional Roadwork and Traffic Conditions

Transport for NSW has confirmed that regional road occupancy restrictions, which were in place over the weekend, will conclude at 6:00 AM on Monday, 2 February 2026. During the restriction period, lane closures on major corridors like the Hume Highway were limited to ensure smooth traffic flow. While regular maintenance schedules will resume, motorists are reminded of ongoing lane closures on the Snowy Mountains Highway between Wambrook Hill and Providence Portal, which are scheduled to continue through 6 February 2026. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays in these work zones.

Weather and Public Health Outlook

Following a weekend of extreme heat across the Riverina, the Bureau of Meteorology predicts a significant shift in conditions for Monday, 2 February. A southerly change is expected to bring a sharp decrease in maximum temperatures throughout the day. While the extreme heatwave conditions are easing, residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and monitor local weather updates, as fire danger ratings in the surrounding North East and Riverina districts remain a priority during the summer season.
