Official Notice: Albury City Infrastructure Updates and Community Health Alerts

Community Health and Safety Alerts
Residents are advised of a statewide health alert following confirmed measles cases across New South Wales. Health authorities urge the community to remain vigilant for symptoms such as fever, sore eyes, and a cough, followed by a distinctive red, blotchy rash. Vaccination is highly recommended as the primary defense against transmission. Furthermore, Albury Wodonga Health has reported an increased prevalence of antibiotic-resistant organisms within local clinical settings. Patients and visitors are reminded to strictly follow hand hygiene protocols when entering or leaving hospital facilities to minimize risk and protect vulnerable patients.
Infrastructure and Essential Works
AlburyCity is currently managing several significant infrastructure projects that may affect local traffic and residents. Key works active this week include:
- Lavington Drainage Reconstruction: Major demolition and shotcrete works are continuing between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible to avoid localized delays and construction noise.
- Burrows Road Reconstruction: Civil works, including the installation of new water mains, are progressing following the project’s commencement in late January. Construction crews and heavy machinery remain active on-site.
- Thurgoona Link Road (Stage 5): Construction of the new sewer and road link is ongoing. This critical infrastructure project is scheduled for completion in March 2026 to support the rapid development of the Thurgoona-Wirlinga precinct.
- Thurgoona Wirlinga School Development: Construction has officially commenced on a brand-new public primary school and preschool for the region. The facility will eventually feature 18 modern classrooms and specialized learning hubs to meet future educational demand.
- Sewer Infrastructure Upgrades: Cleaning and renewal of sewer infrastructure are currently underway at Pump Station 22 and the Jelbart Road facility.
Development and Community Participation
There are several opportunities for residents to engage with local government initiatives and benefit from updated municipal services:
- Planning Exhibition (773 Mate St): A proposal to amend the Albury Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2010 to permit 'office premises' at 773 Mate Street, North Albury, is now open for public comment. Submissions will be accepted until close of business on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
- Animal Adoption Fee Waiver: For the remainder of February, AlburyCity is waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs at the Albury Animal Care Centre. This initiative aims to assist local animals in finding permanent homes and includes settlement support for new owners.
- Youth Council Nominations: Aspiring leaders aged 12 to 18 are encouraged to apply for the 2026 AlburyCity Youth Council. Nominations for the 14 available leadership positions close on Friday, 27 February 2026.
- Interim CEO Appointment: Council has confirmed the appointment of Steve McGrath as interim Chief Executive Officer. Mr. McGrath will lead the organization’s strategic priorities over the coming months during the recruitment process for a permanent executive.
