Official City Roundup: Public Health Alerts and Infrastructure Updates

Public Health Advisory: Easter Long Weekend Safety
NSW Health has issued a regional advisory for the Easter long weekend, urging Albury residents and visitors to take precautions against mosquito-borne illnesses. With increased outdoor activity expected over the holiday period, health officials recommend wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and applying repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus. This advisory remains in effect throughout the duration of the school holidays to mitigate the risk of Japanese encephalitis and other mosquito-borne viruses.
Infrastructure and Traffic Management
AlburyCity continues to oversee several major infrastructure projects. While active construction may be limited during the Good Friday public holiday, the following traffic conditions and work zones remain in place:
- Lavington Drainage Reconstruction: Significant upgrades are progressing between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Motorists are advised to follow localized diversions near the railway line.
- Burrows Road Watermain: Reconstruction efforts continue in South Albury. Temporary lane narrowing is in effect between Logan Road and Union Road; please maintain high awareness of site signage.
- Thurgoona Link Road: Stage 5 of the growth corridor project is active near the Kerr Road intersection. Residents should anticipate minor delays due to ongoing sewer and water trunk main installations.
- Hume Highway Upgrades: Infrastructure work at Table Top continues to necessitate reduced speed limits. Commuters heading north should allow for additional travel time.
Hospital Access and Parking Changes
In coordination with Albury Wodonga Health, the public is reminded of significant access changes at the Albury Campus due to the ongoing Regional Hospital Project. Construction fencing has been adjusted to accommodate the new building footprint. Public parking has been shifted to the full length of the East Street verge. Pedestrian access to the main entrance is now via a newly designated footpath, and traffic controllers are stationed at the carpark entry to prioritize emergency vehicle movements.
Community Notices and Events
The following community programs and public events are active for Friday, 3 April 2026:
- Aurora in Bloom: The immersive light installation continues tonight at the Albury Botanic Gardens. Part of the Luna Light Journeys series, the event runs nightly until 11 April. Low-sensory sessions are available during the first timeslot for those with specific accessibility requirements.
- Animal Adoption Initiative: The Albury Animal Care Centre is currently waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs. This program, which includes settlement support for new owners, will run through the end of April to help rehome local animals.
- Flood Study Consultation: Residents are advised that the formal submission period for the draft Eight Mile Creek Flood Study Review concluded at 5:00 PM on Thursday, 2 April. Council will now begin the process of reviewing community feedback to shape future flood mitigation strategies.
