Official City Notices: Infrastructure Updates and Community Advisories

Public Service Announcement: Regional Infrastructure and Safety Briefing
As of Saturday, 4 April 2026, AlburyCity and regional authorities have issued the following notices regarding infrastructure projects, public health alerts, and community services. Residents are advised to review these updates to ensure minimal disruption to daily commutes and to stay informed on local health guidelines.
Major Roadworks and Traffic Management
Several significant infrastructure projects are currently impacting traffic flow across the Albury and Lavington regions. Commuters should allow for additional travel time and follow all signposted detours:
- Lavington Drainage Reconstruction: Critical drainage upgrades are progressing between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Work is currently focused on retaining wall construction, and motorists should be aware of localized diversions near the railway line.
- Burrows Road Redevelopment: Following the completion of watermain installations, crews in South Albury have transitioned to road pavement construction between Logan Road and Union Road. Expect temporary lane narrowing.
- Thurgoona Link Road: Stage 5 of the growth corridor project is active. Construction of sewer and water trunk mains continues at the Kerr Road intersection, which may cause minor delays for local residents.
- Hume Highway Upgrades: Ongoing work at Table Top continues to result in reduced speed limits and single-lane closures. Northbound commuters should allow an extra ten minutes during peak periods.
Health and Medical Access Alerts
In coordination with Albury Wodonga Health, the public is reminded of access changes at the Albury Campus due to the ongoing Regional Hospital Project. Public parking has been shifted to the East Street verge to maintain capacity, and traffic controllers are stationed at carpark entries to prioritize emergency vehicle movements.
NSW Health has also issued a state-wide public drug warning following reports of multiple opioid overdoses. Furthermore, as part of "April Falls Month," residents are encouraged to engage in the "Let’s Talk About Falls" campaign, aimed at improving safety and independence for older community members through early intervention and home safety assessments.
Community Services and Public Programs
Local residents can take advantage of several active community initiatives this week:
- Animal Adoption Program: The Albury Animal Care Centre is waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs throughout April 2026. This initiative includes additional support to help new companions settle into their homes.
- Free Public Transport: In the neighboring Victorian region, free travel on all public transport is available through 30 April. This applies to cross-border commuters utilizing Victorian rail and bus networks.
- Botanic Gardens Event: The "Aurora in Bloom" light installation remains active nightly at the Albury Botanic Gardens until 11 April. Low-sensory sessions are available during the first timeslot each evening for those with specific accessibility requirements.
Environmental and Planning Updates
The public submission period for the Eight Mile Creek Flood Study Review concluded on 2 April. Council is now reviewing feedback from residents in Thurgoona-Wirlinga, Table Top, and Ettamogah to finalize future flood mitigation strategies. Additionally, construction continues on the new earthen levee and carpark facility at Australia Park; pedestrians are urged to stay clear of active construction zones near the future pedestrian bridge site.
