Sunday Traffic Overview

As we head into Sunday, 22 March 2026, commuters and local drivers in Albury can expect generally light traffic volumes typical for the weekend. However, several ongoing infrastructure projects and safety upgrades continue to impact specific arteries. Residents are advised to factor in an additional five to ten minutes for cross-town journeys, particularly when navigating the northern suburbs and the Hume Highway corridor.

Hume Highway and Regional Arteries

The most significant impact for those travelling north remains the $25 million Hume Highway safety upgrade at Table Top. Located approximately 14 kilometers north of Albury, this project is currently in a high-activity phase. Motorists should be prepared for the following:

  • Lane Closures: Traffic is frequently merged into a single lane in both directions through the work zone.
  • Speed Restrictions: A reduced speed limit is strictly enforced between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm to ensure the safety of on-site crews.
  • Delays: While through-traffic is maintaining a steady flow, expect a delay of approximately five minutes during peak Sunday travel times.

Local Roadworks and Urban Disruptions

Within the city limits, several reconstruction projects are influencing local traffic patterns. In Lavington, the major drainage reconstruction project continues between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Drivers should be wary of localized diversions near the railway line as heavy machinery remains active in the area. In South Albury, work on the Burrows Road watermain is resulting in temporary lane narrowing. While the road remains open, caution is advised in this residential zone.

In the Thurgoona-Wirlinga growth corridor, commuters using Kerr Road may encounter increased truck movements. This is related to the Stage 5 Thurgoona Link Road project, where contractors are focused on essential sewer and water trunk main installations.

Hospital Access and Public Transport

Those visiting the Albury Campus of Albury Wodonga Health are reminded of significant changes to access and parking. Due to the ongoing Regional Hospital Project, construction fencing has been relocated, and public parking is now concentrated along the East Street verge. Traffic controllers may be on-site to prioritize emergency vehicle access, so please follow all directed signage.

On the rails, V/Line services on the Albury line are currently running to their standard Sunday schedule. Following minor disruptions earlier in the week, no planned coach replacements are scheduled for today. Local bus services provided by Martins Albury and Buslines are also operating on their regular Sunday timetables. At Albury Airport, daytime construction on the Taxiway Alpha extension is ongoing, though it is not expected to disrupt flight schedules or terminal access today.
