Traffic Overview for Thursday, 19 March 2026

Commuters across Albury and the surrounding region should prepare for a series of planned disruptions today, Thursday, 19 March 2026. While the CBD remains largely clear, major infrastructure projects on the Hume Highway and several local arterial roads are expected to cause minor to moderate delays during peak travel times. Motorists are advised to plan for an extra 5 to 10 minutes for local trips and significantly more for long-haul travel toward Sydney.

Hume Highway and Table Top Alert

The most significant impact for those heading north of the city is the ongoing safety upgrade at Table Top. Transport for NSW has confirmed that the project is in a high-activity phase today. Commuters can expect the following conditions:

  • Single Lane Closures: Reduced capacity on the Hume Highway approximately 14 kilometres north of Albury.
  • Speed Restrictions: A 40km/h or 60km/h work zone is in place between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
  • Delays: Estimated wait times of approximately five minutes, though this may increase during the afternoon peak.

For those planning a longer journey beyond the local region, major pavement repairs continue further north at the Marulan bypass. With 24-hour work occurring until early April, Sydney-bound travelers should allow an additional 30 minutes for their journey due to contraflow conditions.

Local Roadworks and Council Projects

Within the Albury city limits, several reconstruction projects are currently impacting traffic flow and parking availability:

  • Lavington Drainage Works: Significant reconstruction continues between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Localized diversions are in place, and motorists should be alert for heavy machinery movements near the railway line section.
  • Burrows Road Reconstruction: In South Albury, work on the new watermain is nearing completion. However, road pavement construction is causing temporary lane narrowing. Drivers are encouraged to follow all temporary signage.
  • Thurgoona Link Road (Stage 5): Activity remains high near Kerr Road. While most work is occurring off the main carriageway, frequent truck movements are entering and exiting the site for sewer and water trunk main installations.

Public Transport and Airport Access

Public transport services, including Martin’s Albury and Dysons, are currently operating on their standard Thursday schedules. While no major service cancellations have been reported, buses traveling through Lavington and Thurgoona may experience slight delays due to the aforementioned roadworks. At Albury Airport, daytime construction on the Taxiway Alpha extension continues. While flight schedules remain unaffected, travelers should allow extra time to navigate the airport precinct as construction traffic may slow access to terminal parking and drop-off zones.
