Public Notice: Planning Proposal for 773 Mate Street

AlburyCity is currently inviting public feedback on a Planning Proposal to amend the Albury Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2010 regarding the property at 773 Mate Street, North Albury. The draft amendment seeks to include this site in Schedule 1 of the LEP as an 'Additional Permitted Use' specifically for office premises. Residents can view the relevant planning documents at the AlburyCity Customer Service Centre on Kiewa Street, the Albury LibraryMuseum, or the Lavington Library. Submissions and feedback regarding this proposal must be received by the council no later than Thursday, 19 February 2026.

Animal Adoption Fee Waiver Program

Throughout the month of February 2026, the Albury Animal Care Centre is running a special adoption drive to help local cats and dogs find permanent homes. Adoption fees are being waived for all animals at the facility until 28 February 2026. New owners will also receive additional support to assist with the transition of their new companions. Community members interested in adoption are encouraged to visit the centre to meet the animals currently awaiting a second chance.

Nominations Open: 2026 AlburyCity Youth Council

AlburyCity is calling for nominations from young residents aged 12 to 18 to join the 2026 Youth Council. This program offers local youth the opportunity to represent their peers, provide direct input into council decision-making, and develop leadership skills through community-focused projects. Nominations are currently open for those looking to take an active role in shaping the future of Albury. Information on the application process is available through the council's community services department.

Notice of Ordinary Council Meeting

The next Ordinary Council Meeting is scheduled for Monday, 16 February 2026, at 6:00 PM. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers on the ground floor of the AlburyCity Administration Building at 553 Kiewa Street. Members of the public are welcome to attend in person or view the proceedings via the official council livestream. A Public Forum will precede the meeting, allowing residents to address councillors on items of business listed on the agenda.

Weekend Health and Safety Reminders

As the region continues to manage summer conditions, Albury Wodonga Health reminds residents that the Border Urgent Care Centre at 425 David Street is available for non-life-threatening emergencies on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Additionally, with the sustained fire season response across the state, residents should remain vigilant, monitor the CFA and VicEmergency apps for updates, and ensure their bushfire survival plans are up to date. While no Total Fire Ban is currently declared for Saturday, 14 February, fire danger ratings remain a priority for local authorities.
