Extreme Heatwave Warning Active

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe to extreme heatwave warning for the Riverina district, including Albury, valid through Saturday, 31 January 2026. Residents are advised that maximum temperatures are expected to reach the low to high 40s across the region, with little relief overnight as minimums remain in the mid-20s to low 30s. These conditions represent a significant health risk, particularly for the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

Authorities recommend the following safety measures:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Seek air-conditioned environments where possible and close blinds or curtains early in the day to keep homes cool.
  • Check on neighbors, especially those living alone or without adequate cooling.
  • Limit outdoor physical activity to the early morning or evening hours.

Public Health Advisory and Urgent Care Hours

Albury Wodonga Health continues to manage a heightened response due to the prolonged heat and regional bushfire activity. While medical teams remain focused on community safety, residents are reminded of available non-emergency healthcare options for the weekend of 31 January. The Border Urgent Care Centre, located at 425 David Street, Albury, will be open on Saturday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm for walk-in patients. Additionally, the Priority Primary Care Centre in Wodonga will operate on Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, always call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Council Planning and Public Road Naming

Albury City Council is currently seeking community feedback on several public notices regarding the naming of new thoroughfares. These notices remain active for the end of January, with the submission period closing on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. The proposed names include:

  • Discovery Road: A proposed private road located within Noreuil Park, South Albury.
  • Asher Lane: A new public road commencing at Creek Street and extending eastward.
  • Dornan Lane: A proposed public road situated between Thurgoona Street and Wilcox Street.

Interested residents can submit their feedback via email to the council's information desk or through the official engagement portal. Full details and maps of the proposed locations are available for viewing at the Albury LibraryMuseum and the Lavington Library.
