Minor Delays on Hume Hwy and Rail Disruptions Expected This Wednesday

Morning Outlook

Commuters in Albury should prepare for a mix of road and rail disruptions this Wednesday, March 11, 2026. While most local traffic is flowing steadily, scheduled infrastructure upgrades on major arteries and planned maintenance on the regional rail network will require extra travel time, particularly during the evening peak.

Hume Highway and Regional Routes

The high-activity phase of the Table Top safety upgrade continues today. Transport for NSW has confirmed that motorists traveling north of Albury should expect single lane closures and a reduced speed limit through the work zone. These works are scheduled between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. While the current estimated delay is approximately five minutes, congestion may build during the morning school run and afternoon commute.

For those planning long-distance travel toward Sydney, significant resurfacing remains underway near Marulan. This 24/7 project utilizes contraflow conditions and single lane closures. Drivers are advised to allow an additional 20 to 30 minutes for their journey beyond the local Albury-Wodonga region.

Local Roadworks and Urban Delays

Within the Albury city limits, several reconstruction projects are impacting neighborhood traffic:

  • Lavington: Drainage reconstruction is progressing between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Commuters may encounter localized diversions and heavy machinery movements near the railway line.
  • South Albury: The reconstruction of Burrows Road remains a priority. Ongoing watermain installations may result in temporary lane narrowing. Motorists should maintain awareness of site workers and follow all temporary signage.
  • Thurgoona: Activity remains high on the Thurgoona Link Road Stage 5. Work is currently focused on sewer and water trunk main installations at Kerr Road. While most work is off-road, heavy vehicle entries and exits may cause minor pauses in traffic.

Public Transport and Rail Alerts

V/Line passengers are reminded that scheduled maintenance is impacting evening services today. For Wednesday evening, coaches will replace trains for the entire journey between Southern Cross and Albury. This is part of a planned maintenance block on the Seymour line. Commuters are encouraged to check the latest V/Line timetable as coaches may depart earlier than scheduled train times to maintain connectivity.

Albury Airport Access

Construction on the Taxiway Alpha extension at Albury Airport continues throughout the day. While flight schedules remain unaffected, construction traffic near the airport precinct may slightly slow access to terminal parking and drop-off zones. Passengers are advised to arrive at the terminal at least 60 minutes before their scheduled departure.
