Minor Delays at Table Top and Local Roadworks Impact Friday Commute

Commuters in and around Albury should prepare for a mix of infrastructure upgrades and localized roadworks this Friday, 6 March 2026. While the majority of the regional network remains fluid, several key points of activity will require extra travel time, particularly for those heading north or moving through the Lavington and Thurgoona growth corridors.

The most significant impact for regional travelers remains the ongoing Table Top upgrade project on the Hume Highway. Transport for NSW has confirmed that high-activity work continues today, necessitating single lane closures and a reduced speed limit in the work zone between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. Motorists heading north toward Sydney should anticipate minor delays of approximately five to ten minutes. If you are traveling further north beyond the local region, be aware of separate resurfacing works near Marulan which are currently causing more substantial delays of up to 30 minutes due to contraflow conditions.

Within the Albury urban area, several reconstruction projects are influencing neighborhood traffic flow:

  • Lavington: The major drainage reconstruction project is active between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Commuters should expect localized diversions and the presence of heavy machinery, especially near the railway line where demolition and shotcrete applications are underway.
  • City South: Reconstruction work on Burrows Road remains a priority today. New watermain installations may result in temporary lane narrowing and localized congestion. Drivers are urged to follow all temporary signage and maintain a safe speed around site workers in these residential zones.
  • Thurgoona: Stage 5 of the Thurgoona Link Road project is progressing, with a focus on Kerr Road for sewer and water trunk main installations. While much of the work is occurring off-road, increased construction vehicle movements are expected throughout the day.

Public transport users can expect a standard Friday experience. Local bus services through Martins Albury and Buslines are reporting a normal timetable with no major disruptions scheduled. V/Line rail services on the Albury line are also running to their standard schedule following successful maintenance work completed earlier in the week. At Albury Airport, while the Taxiway Alpha extension project continues with daytime construction, flight arrival and departure times remain unaffected. However, those using terminal parking or drop-off zones should allow a few extra minutes for construction-related traffic near the airport precinct.

For those planning a weekend getaway toward the Alpine region, be mindful that the Brighter Days Festival in Bright begins today. Expect increased traffic on the roads leading toward the Ovens Valley and minor speed reductions in township areas starting this afternoon. Travelers heading toward the Weddin Shire should also note that unsealed roads in that area remain closed to heavy vehicles until late this afternoon following recent rain events.
