Wednesday Traffic Overview

Commuters in and around Albury should prepare for a mix of highway upgrades and localized street works this Wednesday, 18 March 2026. While the majority of the CBD remains clear, significant infrastructure projects at the northern and eastern fringes of the city will require extra travel time. Motorists are advised to plan for minor delays, particularly during the morning peak between 7:30 am and 9:00 am.

Hume Highway and Table Top Upgrades

The $25 million Hume Highway safety upgrade at Table Top continues into its high-activity phase this morning. Transport for NSW has confirmed that Stage 1 works are currently impacting the northbound lanes approximately 14 kilometers north of Albury. Travelers can expect the following conditions:

  • Single lane closures in both directions between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
  • A reduced speed limit through the work zone to ensure the safety of on-site contractors.
  • Estimated delays of approximately five to ten minutes for regional commuters heading toward Holbrook or Sydney.

For those traveling further north, resurfacing work near Marulan involves more significant contraflow conditions, which may add up to 30 minutes to long-haul journeys.

Lavington and South Albury Local Disruptions

Urban roadworks are affecting several residential and commercial corridors today. In Lavington, the major drainage reconstruction project is progressing between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Residents should anticipate localized diversions and increased heavy machinery movements. Current activity is focused on demolition and shotcrete applications near the railway line section.

In South Albury, the reconstruction of Burrows Road remains a priority. Ongoing work on a new watermain is resulting in temporary lane narrowing. While two-way traffic is being maintained, motorists are encouraged to maintain awareness of site workers and follow all temporary signage in the area.

Thurgoona Link Road and Airport Updates

Construction activity is high in the Thurgoona-Wirlinga growth corridor as Stage 5 of the Thurgoona Link Road project proceeds. This week, crews are focusing on sewer and water trunk main installations along Kerr Road. Frequent truck movements are expected near the intersection, and drivers should exercise caution. Meanwhile, at Albury Airport, the Taxiway Alpha extension project is entering the asphalt laying phase. While flight schedules remain unaffected, construction traffic near the terminal precinct may slightly slow access to the parking and drop-off zones.

Public Transport Status

Local bus services, including Martins Albury and Buslines, are reporting a normal Wednesday timetable. Regional rail services on the Albury line are currently running as scheduled; however, passengers connecting to other regional Victorian lines should note that coach replacements are in effect for the Sea Lake and Bendigo services due to localized flooding in the Birchip region.
