Weekend Traffic Outlook for Albury

Commuters and residents in Albury should prepare for a busier-than-usual Saturday on March 7, 2026. While the regional road network remains largely functional, a combination of high-profile political events, local theater productions, and ongoing infrastructure projects will necessitate extra travel time in specific sectors of the city.

Major Event Alert: Albury Entertainment Centre

The central business district is expected to see significant vehicle and pedestrian activity today, particularly around the Albury Entertainment Centre (AEC) on Swift Street. A federal preselection event and a public rally are scheduled for 2:00 PM, which is likely to exhaust available parking in the Kiewa Street and Swift Street blocks. Furthermore, the ongoing season of a major musical production at the AEC will contribute to evening congestion. Motorists are advised to avoid the immediate vicinity of the AEC if they are not attending these events or to utilize the multi-storey parking facilities further afield to reduce bottlenecks.

Hume Highway and Regional Arteries

For those traveling north, the Hume Highway at Table Top remains under active construction. Transport for NSW has confirmed that the Table Top upgrade project is in a high-activity phase today. Between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, motorists can expect single-lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h through the work zone. While estimated delays are currently capped at approximately five minutes, peak midday traffic may see these wait times increase. Drivers heading further north toward Sydney should also remain aware of long-term resurfacing works near Marulan, which may add up to 30 minutes to interstate journeys.

Local Roadworks and Diversions

  • Lavington: Drainage reconstruction continues between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. Commuters should expect localized diversions and increased heavy machinery movements near the railway line.
  • South Albury: The reconstruction of Burrows Road is ongoing. New watermain installations are causing temporary lane narrowing; please follow all temporary signage and watch for site workers.
  • Thurgoona: Stage 5 of the Thurgoona Link Road project is active near Kerr Road. Frequent truck movements are expected as crews install sewer and water trunk mains.

Public Transport and Airport Access

Local bus services are currently operating on their standard Saturday timetables. At Albury Airport, construction on the Taxiway Alpha extension continues. While flight schedules are unaffected, construction-related traffic near the airport precinct may cause slight delays when accessing the terminal drop-off zones and short-term parking. Travelers are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes earlier than usual to account for these minor disruptions.
