Hume Highway Impacts at Table Top

Commuters heading north from Albury this Monday, 9 March 2026, should prepare for continued disruptions as the $25 million Hume Highway transformation at Table Top enters a high-activity phase. Transport for NSW has confirmed that single lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h or 60km/h remain in place between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. While local delays are currently estimated at approximately five minutes, the use of temporary crossovers for two-way traffic flow requires extra caution through the work zone. For those planning longer journeys toward Sydney, be aware that significant resurfacing work continues near Marulan, which may add an additional 20 to 30 minutes to total travel times.

Local Road Reconstruction in Lavington and South Albury

Within the city limits, several major infrastructure projects are impacting neighborhood traffic flow. In Lavington, the drainage reconstruction project is currently focused on the section between Nowra Street and the railway line. Commuters and residents should expect localized diversions and the presence of heavy machinery between Boronia Street and Tamarind Street. In South Albury, the reconstruction of Burrows Road continues with the installation of a new watermain. Temporary lane narrowing is in effect, and motorists are encouraged to maintain awareness of site workers and follow all temporary signage.

Public Transport: Evening Rail Disruptions

While morning rail services are expected to run to the standard timetable, evening commuters on the Albury Line should prepare for disruptions. Planned maintenance on the rail corridor means that coaches will replace evening trains for the entire journey between Albury and Melbourne from Sunday night through to Wednesday, 11 March. Passengers are advised to check the latest service updates before heading to the station, as coach travel can significantly extend journey times compared to standard XPT or V/Line rail services. Local bus networks, including Martins Albury and Buslines, are currently reporting a normal Monday schedule with no major delays noted on urban routes.

Thurgoona Link Road and Airport Updates

In the growing Thurgoona-Wirlinga corridor, Stage 5 of the Thurgoona Link Road project is progressing. Work is currently concentrated on Kerr Road for sewer and water trunk main installations. While most of this work is occurring off the main carriageway, heavy vehicle movements may cause intermittent pauses for traffic. Additionally, Albury Airport continues its Taxiway Alpha extension. While nighttime works have concluded for this phase, daytime construction activity remains visible; however, no significant impacts on airport access roads are expected for today’s travelers.
